Favorite New Nook.
Hmmmm. Ok so I didn't quite get out early enough to make it an art gallery day. To tell you the truth I spent the morning watching Obama's State of the Union address. And planning which galleries I wanted to visit which I consider just as productive, yes?
I did make it out for a frolick in the afternoon and made it a point to find the Faculdade de Belas Artes (art school) in Lisboa which is on an adorably unassuming street with pretty much only an art store (Ponto das Artes), and an overlook of Baixo sharing it's location. I did not make it in time to find out what the deadlines were to sign up for classes or workshops but now that I have made my way there, I will make sure to get an earlier start next time I head over.
I met up with Erica for a cafezinho and a little something sweet at the Brasileira. The bolinho de requeijao (a cheesecake of sorts) was absolutely delicious. One of my inner goals, which I confessed to Erica was to sample at least one new treat each week. I can fully say that this goal has been tended to with full dedication. She was super sweet in wanting to meet up so she could tell me about a friend of hers who might need someone to work at a hostel in Lisboa. I plan on contacting him within the next couple of days to see how that pans out.
I then convinced her to come on a scavenger hunt with me to find a place that I was super excited to check out called Fabulas. I had seen it in one of those little publications in a local cafe and it had been sitting in my mind all day. We went off, distracted by both girl gab and streets we had never walked down. After circling a bit, we realized that the street that the place was on was a quaint little road, almost more of an alleyway with stairs steep enough to make us wonder if we would make it up. But alas we arrived. And what a lovely thing we did!
It has instantly become one of my favorite nooks in the city. All of the tables were different, almost as though walking into an antique shop, with chairs and couches that mismatched perfectly and framed images of the best of the best black and white movie actors, Charlie Chaplin and Greta Garbo included. We sat in a little corner that housed two vintage sewing machine tables with machines in mint condition attached. The menu was lovely. Beers. Wines. Coffees. Crepes. Mmmmm. Crepes. We ordered beers and a lovely plate of breads and cheeses and olive spread. And there we sat. And gabbed. And laughed. And gabbed some more. I left with a smiley heart and knowing that Fabulas and I will become quite great friends... Hooray to my first favorite nook!
