Fell In Love Today. Twice.

I was off to a bit of a late start today. Met Marta at La Boqueria and had a papaya and orange juice. We set off wandering the streets and found we had a favorite pastime in common...silly photos. Fantastic! We spent the day looking for graffiti and photo ops.

After several hours we walked down towards the port and Marta noticed a painted sign hanging out of a window with an image of Dali on it. Said she thought it was the work of a graffiti artist she really liked and wanted to check it out. And so we did. It was at that moment that I fell in love with a set of 75 year old twins . One brother. The painter. Had never done anything else in his life. Had also never taken an art class. Completely self taught. Painting works of Dali and inspired by Dali. His brother. The adorably smiley assistant who was more than happy to show us each and every room, there were about 6, and tell us fact upon fact about when each piece was painted, and what they were inspired by. There were thousands of paintings in the flat. They were everywhere. Covering every inch of wall space, and tons leaned up against each other on every spot on the floor. The brothers were even sweet enough to have several pillows scattered on the floor for anyone who wanted to sit and sift through the work. I found the piece I needed to bring home with me in minutes. A small framed painting of Dali. Precious. We spent close to an hour giggling and chatting and watching a work in progress being painted. And it moved me to know that this was all this man had, all he had ever done and all it seemed he ever wanted to do.

It was beautiful and by far my most awe inspiring experience in Barcelona. I am completely head over heels over them. Both. And have not been able to stop thinking about how lucky I was to have met people who radiate contentment by just doing what they love. Swoooooooon.
