An Afternoon In Lisboa.

Today I spent the day doing some of my favorite things in the world. Wandering and getting lost. I started the day off with a cafezinho and a coxinha and made my way through many neighborhoods in downtown Lisboa. I started off in Baixa and made my way through Chiado, Bairro Alto, and Rossio. I wandered in and out of any little street that sparked an interest and made my way to Marques de Pombal where I caught the metro to Sao Sebastiao near the International House where I will be taking my course. I arranged for a meeting with the director of the school to check for February openings and should know by next Tuesday how that all works out. On my way back I stopped in at the Museo Gulbenkian to check out their exhibits. I then wandered back near Rossio where I wandered the streets for hours, up and down hills, hopping on and off trolleys and watching little old ladies waddle up impossibly steep hills. Then I returned to Baixa where I made my way to the Museo de Arte Moderna which had a pretty sweet exhibit on city streets. To end the day I strolled down to Praca dos Comercio which not only overlooks the ocean, but also holds a beautiful archway which makes for a grand entrance into Baixa. And at night. With the buildings lit up. It's just breathtaking. Ending the day I made my way back to Cais do Sodre where I hopped the train back to Estoril.

I found that I was able to get a pretty good general familiarity with the area but feel like there are endless days of things to discover still! The people here have been super sweet whenever I stop to ask for directions and while I can't quite pick up half of what they are saying because of the difference in accent, I find that most times we end up understanding each other.

Can't wait to wander some more...
