A Day Of Wander.
I almost went to the Thyssen this morning (the third of the heavy hitter museums in Madrid) but I just couldn't. I needed to take the day to digest what I saw yesterday. So I did what anyone in my position would do. Started the day with a breakfast at the Museo de Jamon (museum of ham) instead.
I ordered a zumo de naranja natural and a plate called paella de embutido. 5 types of meat. 2 types of cheese. One piece of bread. And after a half hour of smack talking (in my own head of course) I was only able to get through half the plate realizing I did not deserve the fate of John Candy in "The Great Outdoors". Note to self. A full plate of ham might be a bit much first thing in the morning.
I set off. No destination. No purpose. Just walking. If I recall correctly I made my way through La Latina, Embajadores, and Lavapies. Met some calamari along the way, both on a street wall and in my belly. And finally ran into what I now consider my favorite crime fighter. A beer-bellied Spiderman who hangs out in Plaza de Mayor. A dream come true.
Met Mary for a siesta before a night out where she introduced me to La Cabra En El Tejado and their delightful tostas. Madrid? Yes, please.
